Despite having had a limited but (some may consider) reasonable amount of contact with Japanese people through my work in the past, I am thoroughly ashamed to admit that my only command of their ancient and complex language is restricted to the words for `yes`, `no`, `goodbye`, `thank you` and the appropriate response to `thank you` which means `don`t mention it` or `you are welcome` and sounds (phonetically, at least) something remarkably like `don`t touch my moustache`. In fact, our experience of South East Asian culture in general is pretty much restricted to affairs of the stomach. That is unless, of course, you are familiar with the ancient art of Bonsai. Any initiate of the art of Bonsai will be able to add to your vocabulary of `yes`, `no`, `goodbye`, `thank you` and `don`t touch my moustache` two more words of Japanese to increase your fluency.
